DALLAS, TEXAS, February 16, 2011 (BUSINESS WIRE) — COPsync Inc. (COYN.OB), a provider of an information and data sharing network for law enforcement agencies, announced that Massachusetts has enacted a law directing the Massachusetts Executive Office of Public Safety and Security (EOPSS) to prioritize the development and implementation of a real-time, data-sharing system among federal, state and municipal law enforcement agencies to facilitate interdepartmental cooperation and assistance.
Brandon/COPsync LLC, which is a distributor of the COPsync service in the Northeast and the mid-Atlantic region, recently became aware of the new law as they met with officials at the Executive Office of Public Safety and Security to discuss the COPsync system. The Massachusetts statute was contained in the state’s budget and codified as Chapter 131 of the Acts & Resolves of 2010.
“The COPsync information and data-sharing network is what law enforcement officers have been seeking for years,” stated retired Lt. Bruce H. Lint, Esq., president of Brandon/COPsync LLC. “With the help of COPsync, law enforcement agencies will be linked to a common information sharing network. This will enable participating agencies throughout the United States to collect and share information, regardless of geographical location and regardless of which proprietary computer-aided dispatch (CAD) or records management system (RMS) the agency happens to use.”
“The law emphasizes the state’s commitment to information sharing among Massachusetts law enforcement agencies,” said Ronald A. Woessner, COPsync chief executive officer. “This aligns with the view of the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) inasmuch as Janet Napolitano, the Secretary of DHS, has stated publicly that information sharing among U.S. law enforcement agencies is one of her top priorities. COPsync is pursuing, with the help of Brandon/COPsync, an information sharing initiative in the Northeast to bring those agencies onto its network. This Massachusetts law demonstrates the state’s commitment to such an initiative.”
